The Sri Mariamman Temple (Sri Maha Mariamman) is the oldest of all the Hindu temples in Penang, bulit to cater for the needs of the large community of Tamil's from South India who live in this area of Georgetown, known as "little India".

The origins of the temple date back to 1801, when there was a shrine here. The temple you see today, was built in 1833.

Outside the temple is a beautiful intricate sculpted wall tower (gopuram).Inside you will find statues of Hindu deities & sacred animals.It is a very colourful and beautiful temple and well worth a visit.
